Gov. Expresses Dismay with Billion Dollar Health Plan Divided Request

Articulating the need to restore the authority of the New York State Insurance Department (SID) to review health insurance premium increase requests, Governor David Paterson and Superintendent of Insurance James Wrynn this week issued a press release stating that SID has received requests from three New York State health insurers or their subsidiaries to issue dividends of more than $1.2 billion, which will be sent to out-of-state corporate parents. The requests follow initial dividend actions from the same three insurers last year that totaled $948 million.
