Physicians Urged to Contact Congress in Support of SGR Fix Bill
It is essential that all physicians contact their respective member of the United States House of Representatives to urge that they support HR 3961.  This legislation, to be considered next week by the House, would enact a long-term fix of the flawed SGR formula for determining Medicare reimbursement.  Without action by Congress, physician Medicare reimbursement will be cut by 21% in 2010. Congress has repeatedly addressed this issue in past years with short-term fixes. While we appreciate that they have prevented these disastrous cuts from going into effect, the cost to fix this problem grows substantially each year.  If we only enact a one-year fix of this projected cut, physicians face a projected 25% Medicare cut in 2011.

This is unsustainable.  You must send a message that we cannot have health system reform unless we better assure the availability of physician care.  You can call your respective Representative by calling the AMA Grassroots Hotline at 1-800-833-6354.
